It is already the second quarter of 2018. How are those resolutions for 2018 turning out? Do you even remember them? How clear is your be, do, have list for 2018, let alone your second half of life?

When I started doing vision board work, I was overwhelmed with the thought that I could lasso all my dreams, desires and wants for my second half of life into a coherent vision.

How in the world was I to know what I wanted to be, do, and have for myself?

The problem for me, personally, was that in the first half of my life, I was busy caretaking for others. Wasn’t that what I was suppose to do? I was the

  • loving, caring, cook and cleaner who cooked all the meals type of wife
  • buying and supporting the next fund-raiser kind of PTO mom
  • driving my kids and all their friends to every sports game chauffeur
  • doing everything at work because I’m so nice worker
  • travelling 1000 miles to see my own parents and care for them daughter

I finally hit a wall in my mid-50’s and I could go another step because I was too depressed and life was too dark.

Since that time, I’ve been on a journey to become well-nourished and discover what I want to be, do and have for my second half of life. How do you do that, even in the next 90 days?  Why 90 day, you ask?  Because 90 days is a chunk of time you can reasonably focus upon.  When you say a year, it’s easy to get lost.  You can do anything for 90 days!!!!

How do you want to be from now until June?

For April, May and June, how do you want to be? More calm? peaceful? joyful? What would it take for you to practice being that way these next 90 days?

For example, I want to be more calm: to let go of the stress in my body. I can get myself into fifth gear very easy and go, go, go. How can I be more calm in the next 90 days?

First of all, I need to recognize when I am not being calm. What are my obstacles to peace and calmness?

Noise

Overextended list of things to do

Chatter in my head

Procrastination

Lack of focused prayer

Lack of permission to rest

Lack of exercise

If I want to be calm, I have to decide what to do about it. That’s how my be, do, have list begins to intertwine.

How do you want to be this next quarter? What are the obstacles you are facing?

What do you want to do from now until June?

How does what you want to be impact what you want to do? If you want peace and calmness, then what will you have to do to get there?

Since I want more peace and calmness for my second quarter and I know my obstacles, I can now make a plan to do something about it.

I want to pray three times daily, do Holy Yoga and exercise daily and find quiet environments in which to work, such as the local library.

What do you want to do in order to gain how you want to be?

What do you want to have from now until June?

How does wanting to be peaceful and doing things that keep you peaceful impact what you want to have? Do you want to have more free time? Or would you like to have time away once a month? What is it you would like to have that could promote more peace in your life?

For me, in order to be more calm and do my prayers, exercise and find the quiet environments, I have to have plans ahead of time as to when I will pray, where I will work and when I will exercise. These become my big rocks on my calendar and everything else can fit around them.

I am putting an alarm on my phone and computer at noon to remind me to pray at noon time, just to take a breathe and refocus.  I remember to pray in the morning.  I think I’ll put a little sign by my bed at night to remember to pray at night.  I’m not a night person so on my way to bed, I can hardly wait to get there!

What little tricks can you include in your week to help you get what you want to have for the next 90 days?  What gets scheduled gets done.  Our brain loves novelty – something different as well as our focus which often needs pre-decisions,  An example of a pre-decision is when to pray three times a day so I don’t have to keep making that decision daily.

That’s also why I have to schedule exercise on my calendar.  I can certainly talk myself right out of that exercise if I don’t pre-decide!!!

The Take Away

As you can see, being, doing and having all intertwine in a big picture to impact what your life can look like.  When you break things down into manageable chunks, like a 90-day period they become doable.

What will your next 90 days look like?  What do you want to be, do and have at the end of June?  How could your life look different by taking just a few steps?  What can you schedule and what can you pre-decide?
